Evolution and Importance of Technology in Education

Technology has played vital role in shaping and shifting the education system from traditional based teaching learning method to modern teaching learning methods. In a traditional based education system, the learning happened most of the time in a classroom setting and the students were more of a passive listeners because it was only the teacher who was delivering lesson throughout the class. However, with the change in time and evolution of technology teaching learning has changed for better where learning is not just teacher delivering the whole lesson but a collaborative learning between both students and teacher. Learning can happen anywhere and anytime with the help of technology.

The teaching learning approach from classroom oriented teaching learning has been changing/ shifting towards online or virtual learning. Technology has touched our lives in many aspects. In particular, education sector has highly realized the importance and significance of technology because of its numerous benefits. And especially during times of covid 19 pandemic, schools being closed for almost a year all over the world, the education sector has swiftly shifted towards online learning. Among many digital learning tools; Google, Zoom Meeting, Google Classroom, and social media sites or applications such as telegram, Wechat, Whatsapp, Messenger and VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) for university students and school going students was most commonly used for educational purpose.

Students' engagement can be increased, teachers' lesson plans can be improved, and personalized learning may be facilitated through the use of digital learning technologies in the classroom. It also assists pupils in developing critical 21st-century abilities. Virtual classrooms and other digital tools can not only make class more engaging, but they can also help teachers build more conducive learning environments that encourage collaboration while also allowing them to collect data on student performance at the same time.
